STYLE DIARY: ABOUT TAKING RISKS
I'm not really a firm believer in astrology. I remember my friends once chatting for hours and hours about nothing but me being the libra in person, that being my astrological sign. Next to them, there was me, listening to their superstitious opinions and critically reflecting their words. Funnily enough, I couldn't deny most of the facts they tried teaching me about myself. So is it said that for Libra's like me, 2017 is the year for taking risks and breaking from convention, and I think there comes this time in everyone's life when faced with a choice that involves risk. So be it. As far as I am concerned, with my Master's graduation ahead of me on the second half of the year (Only the thought of looking for jobs makes me anxious already.), I could well imagine 2017 to be one of those years to me.
When it comes to taking risks, there are two extremes. Risk is, by nature, scary. Uncertain. Unpredictable. So some people are afraid to even take the slightest risk, while others take risks easily, believing it to make them courageous, without thinking about the pieces of shattered dreams they might find themselves picking up afterwards. As for me, I belong to that second group of risk-takers. I've never really been one to think small, and while living in a world where mediocrity is the norm, the ordinary has never really been for me. I dream big, and I get no satisfaction taking the easy way, even if that means I fall sometimes and realise I've got to take a step back. I simply love to reinvent myself over and over again, and there is something really fulfilling about heading off into uncharted territory.
Too often we know what it is we want to do, but we still don't do it. Giving up what we know for what might be? The rewards can be great, but so can the costs.. So we tend to stick to the status quo, which seems to be the easier, less scary option. But if we don't accept the challenge, won't we find ourselves living a nondynamic life that bores us? Life doesn't come with a guarantee, anyway, which can make it risky and perhaps scary, but it's also what makes it fun and interesting, isn't it?
Whether the outcome is success or failure, I believe taking a risk to give you faith in your strength and abilities, and the ambition to reach even higher. Just think about it, everyone has experienced these moments they wish they had been just a little braver and just a little less cautious in the chances taken. If you ask me, the biggest risk in life is not taking one..
One of my most recent purchases has been that black flower-cut-out Topshop blazer, and I mean, it's needless to say anything about it, isn't it? Combined with tulle and a dash of pink it looks totally chic and makes the fog in the city look even more dull. I do find myself struggling to pull off flats from time to time, but my shiny black loafers (aka my work shoes) were the perfect addition to the dreamy outfit.
