The Evolution Of The Power Suit
Shoulder pads, 9-9 office heels and double-breasted jackets. The power suit had quite a reputation back in the days. But after decades of being associated with the white-collar women of the 1970s and 80s -women who dressed for success- it has returned to the fashion fold. It's back on top, no doubt. And to be fair, nothing makes quite a statement like a suit. But there’s so much more to the 'conservative' ensemble than the 1980s executive woman that commands attention. Now, the two-piece comes neat and statement-making, yet not sacrificing that message of empowerment. There's much more structure and emphasis on the shoulder and the waist, and be they sharp or slouchy, well-tailored trousers teamed with coordinating jackets make staying chic in and out of the office so easy!
Making suits acceptable for Women is possibly my favourite fashion trend that has arisen during the past few years. I have always been a massive fan of a good co-ord set, and seriously happy when I started seeing the first two pieces pop up in the shops again. It’s so easy to adapt the trend to your own style and add your own flair. No more stealing from the boys!
