"Love is old, love is new, love is all, love is you." - The Beatles

I just finished my summer internship as a destination wedding planner, and I want to share my experience of the "world of weddings" with you. I worked in Paris, the city of love and life, where - of course - many people come to celebrate the best day of their life. They know the importance of hiring a wedding planner to coordinate their big day abroad, because it is quite hard to plan your wedding when you are not living in the same country or do not speak the same language as people there.

So, a lot of people were asking me about my experience, curious about the "glamorous life" of being a wedding planner. But, to mention first, this job is so much more than just glamour. It is so much more than working at beautiful venues, seeing beautiful dresses and attending great events. Of course, people only see this side of the job, the end result. But they do not know what is happening behind the scenes, and it is our job as planners to keep that away from them. People do not know that you get to staple tons of cartons with wedding items, from calligraphy to decoration, all over your apartment, and also schlep them to the venue, that you eat on a bench on the streets between 2 appointments because you do not have time to go and eat out, that you need to be available 24/7, your computer desktop looks like a mess and that your feet are hurting at the end of the day because they were carrying you from one side of the city to the other for the whole day.

Those of you who have already planned a wedding or any other kind of event may know that the earlier you start, the more time to prepare you have and the less stressful it is. But still, some days prior to the event, things are showing up that you haven't thought of before. So you get to plan a lot of events on the same time, each of them being unique. Meanwhile, you follow up with the events already passed and you have the events going on on the same time, the ones that you planned in advance, and on which you need to be present of course to coordinate the day(s). I say days, because some people decide, to not only hold their event during one day, but because of being away from home and making everyone fly to the destination, doing more than one day of activities and events.

There is a lot of work included, but at the end of the day, when the event is taking an end and you can sit down and enjoy a glass of wine, it is just wonderful to see how it all turned out. I love making people happy, and this is exactly what we work for. Because what could make them more happy than the best day of their life, exchanging vows with their big love.
