There we go, again, packing for yet another exciting trip. What starts in excitement, can easily lead to frustration when it comes to packing. But it does not have to be that way! I am sharing my strategies and packing tips with you, to make your travel arrangements so much less exhausting! So whether you’re packing for a weekend getaway or a two week beach holiday, or even for a year abroad, these are all of the tips you’ll ever need for stress-free packing. And I’m telling you, these simple but genius hacks will make packing your luggage a breeze!
Make a packing list
There is not a single time I embark the airplane not worrying I might have left something essential at home. So for peace of mind of what to pack, I create packing lists tailored to my trip weeks in advance. If you’re any less excited of creating these, download and print off my holiday packing list here. It’s full of holiday essentials. Plus, there’s space to add your own personal items as well.
Roll your clothes
I’ve ignored that tip for a long time, doubting it would make my life any easier. But it’s such a genius hack. Not only does it prevent creases, it also saves lots of space in my suitcase. Plus , I get a much better overview of my clothes, seeing them all rolled up rather than lying on top of each other on a pile once I open up my suitcase. As a little bonus, I colour-coordinate things in my suitcase. And since I technically live out of my suitcase, it makes it so much easier to decide what to wear in the morning.
Pack in outfit
Combine neutrals that mix and match, general rule of thumb being two tops for every bottom, and only two or three pairs of shoes. Set aside your heaviest shoes and bulkiest outfit or outerwear (or any items that are wrinkle-prone) to wear on the plane.
We all try to fit our entire wardrobe into a suitcase that seems to have shrunk since the last time we’ve used it. I always double-check the airline’s luggage allowance, yet never managed to take everything I wanted with me. Well, that was until I’ve discovered packing cubes. They’re a true life saver, and no matter where I go, I never travel without them. Packing cubes will make it so much easier to close your suitcase, even after an extensive shopping trip at your destination, shriveling your clothes into a tight, tiny, bundle that takes up minimal suitcase space. They help you separate different items and access things more quickly. You might even be able to squeeze that last minute pair of shoes into your suitcase!
I literally squeeze everything into ziplock bags. Yes, the ones you’d use for hand luggage liquids. I use them to protect everything that goes into my bag, and not only store liquids, but I also take some extra ones to store electrical items, medication and other loose accessories. And I can only recommend using them, rather than realising upon arrival that your entire suitcase content is coated in a thick layer of shampoo. We’ve all discovered the disastrous liquid leak in our luggage, haven’t we?
